Visit To Longwood Gardens
Last week, Melissa and I went to Longwood Gardens, one of the most premier botanical gardens in the nation. Located in Kennett Square, PA, this is a great escape from the SEPTA fumes and litter strewn streets of Fishtown. We both needed this, and, damn, it was beautiful!
Just about an hour drive away from Philadelphia, Longwood Gardens is the Disney World of gardens — 1050 acres of woodlands, meadows, fountains, gardens, and additions added by previous owner Pierre S. du Pont, who saved the area from being used for lumber in 1906. For $16 a head, you get an exhausting variety of sections to take in, all mapped out and ready to explore. "Chimes Towers" was a highlight of mine. It’s a great deal. Do it!
Every flower is labeled in Longwood Gardens, and I hardly remember anything. We particularly liked these flowers, called Dahlias.
My Fishtown backyard…Yeah, right…This is a mini-Versaille. I need a fountain in my yard at some point though.
