Here’s a video of Melissa and I exploring the aftermath of the 12/17/09 snowstorm here in Philly. Unlike yesterday’s storm, the 12/17 storm received just a meager 23.2″ of snow. I was redesigning my web site at the time and didn’t have time to post it back then.

The above video was uploaded to YouTube after being exported from iMovie HD using the QuickTime CD-ROM default settings. I’ve been using this for a while, which I’m realizing is not optimum for the web at all. In fact, it looks like dung. With that said, a new one is coming using the YouTube Instructions For Optimizing Videos.

Also, interesting to note is that I used a song called “Fiesta” by Ween as the background song. While the video was playing on YouTube, a minimalist text ad popped up indicating that the song was “Fiesta” by Ween, with a link to purchase the song. So, the internal song information of the MP3 in the QuickTime movie that I uploaded must be remaining intact.

I then received this email from YouTube:

Your video, Snowadelphia 12/17/09, may have content that is owned or licensed by WMG.

No action is required on your part; however, if you are interested in learning how this affects your video, please visit the Content ID Matches section of your account for more information.

After some quick Google searches, I found out the WMG is Warner Music Group and that they sometimes disable or remove the video completely if you use one of their songs. We’ll see what happens.

Update!

Well, I decided to use iMovie 08 instead of the older iMovie HD, and the results are outstanding! Crisp and clear. You have to see the difference. Check it out below. The Ween soundtrack was stripped out because I didn’t carry that over, but now I know how to make videos look VERY good in YouTube. iMovie 08 has a “Share To YouTube” setting that I didn’t fudge with at all. The results are truly spectacular.
