About This Guy Carl Franke
Spicy Seasoned Web Professional
Born & raised in the Philadelphia suburbs and educated at Kutztown University, I have always been within an hour drive of Philly. I currently live in Fishtown with my wife, Melissa, who runs her own photography company.
We have a highly entertaining orange & white cat, Santucci, named after Melissa’s favorite pizzeria. He is a trip.
I currently work in the Web Technology department for a great company called Campus Apartments, located in University City.
When I’m not glued to my iMac, I enjoy biking, writing piano & synth intrumentals, recording with Pro Tools, cooking experiments, design, Netflix hours, adding to my stack of “to read”, and obsessing over the Phillies.
Design & Art Direction History
Back in 1999, I partied like it was 1999, and I also designed my first web site. I was working at Strongarm Designs as the one-man marketing team, and was given the opportunity to design the company’s first web site.
With a recent degree in Telecommunications, I had no formal training in web technology. But, after many purchases at what I like to call the “University of Barnes & Noble”, I was quickly on my way, and soon discovered many web designers bloomed via the same method. My obsession with the web began.
In mid-2000, I joined GMH Communities (now American Campus Communities) and was their sole Web Designer for 6 and a ½ years, designing multiple branch identities for student housing, commercial real estate, restaurants, local sports teams and more. Throughout my career, I have taken on many freelance opportunities to keep my skills sharp & varied.
