Before watching the Eagles game at Buffalo Billiards this past Sunday, Melissa and I checked out the National Liberty Museum in Old City. On Sundays, you pay what you want to get in, so how could we resist that?

The National Liberty Museum is jam packed with over 200 interactive exhibits and works that celebrate American democracy. With four unique thematic floors, there is a lot to explore. The tribute to 9/11 is a very sobering and chilling section that will make you linger on the stairway to examine the names and faces of the fallen heroes. The "200 Americans Who Made A Difference" is quite an inspiring exhibit. There is a lot to be read with many of these exhibits, though, but luckily not many people were there during our stay.

Below is an image of "Jellybean People" by Sandy Skoglund, enforcing the idea that we’re all the same inside. With the click of a button, the viewer can activate all of the butterflies in the background to shake their wings. I should have taken video of this, as the photo doesn’t do it justice!

Last night, Melissa and I checked out “oOOoOoOo”, a modern dance performance put on by Pink Hair Affair. I don’t know too much about dance, aside from occasional Fringe Fest gambles, but this show was highly entertaining.

Taking place at the Adrienne Theatre, these girls put on a rigorous performance with often hysterical tongue-in-cheek overtones.

“Rotation Corporation”, starring Laura Jenkins (who is also a Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader) and Jacklyn Koch, was a great jab at office job women who are ridiculously being flirtations and boldly showing off their bodies in skimpy mini-skirts while swiveling around on wheeled office chairs. Laura and Jacklyn also performed “Orbation” together, which featured dancing and twisting on round wooden spinning devices.

“Fluid Reverie”, featuring a great Boards of Canada song, was a gorgeous trance of give and take featuring every member (I believe) of Pink Hair Affair.

When it was over, I definitely wanted to watch it again! But, instead we went to The Devil’s Alley Bar and Grill for some awesome crab and guacamole quesadillas. Yeahhhhh. The only thing that sucked about this place was the music, as they just had a radio on set to a local 70s station. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for “Feel Like Makin’ Love” that night.

Here’s footage of Laura as an Eagles Cheerleader:

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of performing at Studio 27.28 for the September opening of artists Cassandra Warren and Eric DeJesus.

This marked a new genre of performance for me, utilizing a Roland SP-555 sampler to build dynamic samples and to improvise instrumentals. For some reason, my new MacBook crashed twice, which really sucked! But, I’m sure with some tweaks I can get it performing properly next time.

Melissa took some photos of the event as well, of course!

I almost didn’t get to Studio 27.28 that night due to a horrific car accident that Melissa and I witnessed on the drive over. At the intersection of 16th & Broad, we watched in perfect site a Cadillac Escalade come barreling down the WRONG lane of traffic and slam into another SUV in the middle of the intersection! The white Escalade then ricocheted off of the other SUV and crashed into a traffic-light pole. Suddenly, a young looking man got out of the Escalade and ran away down Girard Avenue. The woman in the other SUV, who had what looked like a 2-year-old in the back seat, luckily did not attain any injuries. Then, the traffic light pole came crashing down into the street.

Taking place above a pond on a grassy hill, the festival displays “10 minute tops” films and videos from area Berks County artists and beyond. For a submission fee of $10, practically anyone with a film / video to present can let it shine that night in the dark serene farm sky.

With the videos / films projected on a large screen, people gather on the hillside to watch the fun unravel all night long, with this year’s total footage easily reaching four hours!

A free keg of Legacy Midnight Wit, free desserts, and a variety of Lara Bars were on hand for chowing on, along with excellent authentically made tacos for sale.

Also for sale were very cool Virginville Film Festival t-shirts, buttons, as well as a DVD of the entire night for just $5.

If you like homemade, DYI, non-pretentious videos made by amateurs and professionals alike, you should definitely check it out next year. It’s like a high-definition YouTube in a rural sky.

Plenty of custom hand made signs were everywhere to let people know that they were on the right track.
