Suite Time With Phils

Checked out the Phils suite level style yesterday with Melissa, courtesy of Entercom. Well worth getting there early for this one. Great food and fun times, although the Braves escaped with a 5-2 win, even with 12 hits and 9 K’s by Cole.

Harry Kalas at Laurel Hill

On venturing down Kelly Drive this past weekend, Melissa noticed that we were at a red light next to the Laurel Hill Cemetery in East Falls. After a few words, we were suddenly driving on a road through the vast cemetery of gorgeous and elaborately decorated tombstones, funerary monuments, and mausoleums. We saw that there was a Harry Kalas exhibition at the Laurel Hill Museum, so we parked the car to check it out.

The Laurel Hill Cemetery, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary, is spread out over 74 acres of winding pathways, hills, and steps, all interconnecting. Many of the grave sites overlook Kelly Drive and the Schuylkill River, making for a very a tranquil place with a beautiful view.

Melissa stands at the Harry Kalas gravesite, which features a large microphone tombstone and four blue Veterans Stadium seats for you to sit at and pay your respects to the voice of the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Harry Kalas exhibit in the museum features the homerun ball hit by Shane Victorino at Nationals Park on the day that Harry passed away.

Chooch & The Tooch

Picked up a Chooch bobblehead doll at one of the latest Phillies games I went to this season. Oh, and apparently the ice cream helmets are a big hit with cats.

Bobbleheads are a nice giveaway, but it seems it would be better to give them away when you’re leaving the game as opposed to when you walk in and have to guard it the whole game.

This says it all! I hope Cole Hamels used the proper dosage of Pantene tonight and that I don’t have to see his Comcast HD commercials in between dipping nachos.

I just could not get into the Halloween mindset this year, even though one of the biggest and coolest party of any year is happening right down the street from my house at 2424 Studios. It’s all Phillies tonight.

Phillies Win At The Piazza

The Piazza at Schmidts was our destination to watch Game 5 of the NLCS, and we couldn’t have picked a better place. Swift Half Pub makes for a great outdoor seating area for pub grub, drinks, and chillin’ with friends while getting an angled yet decent view of the game. I settled in with their steak sandwich and a 4 or 5 Thomas Jefferson Ales. Damn, stay away from these ABV 8.0% ales on a school night. Wow. Good stuff, but, damn!

Soon after the Phillies victory, Melissa got some crazy photos of a streaker, which is funny because we were all joking about having the balls to streak if they win. But this guy was right on it!

Straw

Darryl Strawberry was one of my idols growing up. I remember being a total geek about his 1984 Topps rookie card and wondering how cool the mofo must be to hang out with. Of course, I was only in 5th grade and didn’t know what he was really up to with good ole Dwight Gooden and Mookie Wilson.

With his new book, Straw, Darryl Strawberry apparently opens up about the sexcapades him and the boys had. The “in between innings” BJs with groupies sounds like a tough one to pull off, living like cliche rock stars as ball players. F-ing hilarious.

Phillies Phishtown Celebration

On October 29th, 2008, I watched the Phillies win the World Series at Johnny Brendas in Fishtown. Below is some footage shot moments after the victory, when the tightly packed bar exploded with energy and everyone ran outside to make some noise. This was a great celebration in Fishtown with loads of fireworks, honking horns, non-stop high-fives,and just pure hilarity.

Here’s some footage of the Philadelphia Phillies Championship Parade on Broad Street. It was a beautiful day out, blue skies, mid-60s, and loads of fans everywhere. We started at 15th & Market Streets, which was an absolute nightmare. Descending down to Broad & Washington Streets made for a better view and a more fun crowd as well.
